Tattoo references Maui

How to send tattoo references that actually help.

Reference photos are useful when they show direction, not when they ask an artist to copy someone else's tattoo exactly.

Send mood, subject, and line weight.

Good references show the subject you want, the overall feeling, and the type of line or shading you like. A few strong images are better than twenty mixed ideas.

Include a placement photo.

A quick photo of the body area helps the artist understand available space, shape, and flow. This is especially useful for Japanese-inspired work, fine line placements, ornamental pieces, and coverup conversations.

Be honest about size and budget.

Size affects detail, time, and price. If the budget is limited, say that early so the artist can suggest flash, simplification, or a smaller version instead of designing something unrealistic.

Do not expect an exact copy.

References should guide the custom direction. The final tattoo needs to be adapted to your placement, skin, artist fit, and what will read clearly over time.

Send your references with the inquiry.
